Really, Spring is here at Crane Lake. The ice is out but this morning we picked up a couple of inches of snow just to remind us where we live. The water levels are rising and the fire danger has significantly been reduced. These are two good things.

End of the Trout Season
The moon is setting on the last early run for some late season trout fishing. However, the sun is rising on Spring. The snow is melting and the water in the beaver ponds is flowing so the lake is not far behind. 
Happy New Year
Sometimes a good old New Year’s eve party can have serious consequences regarding how the New Year starts. I think this puts a new meaning to awaking on New Year’s day with a head that just doesn’t quite feel right.
Below the Donut at Crane Lake
The temperatures are headed below the donut as we go into the new year. So the wool socks came off the mantle and are on my feet (less the coal). Happy New Year!

Mr. SPVR Bear says Spring is near
Mr. SPVR Bear has come out of hibernation and is saying the end of winter is over for Crane Lake. He watches as the snow continues to melt and the water flowing into the lake. After a walk on the ice in the warm sun he senses that open water is just around the corner. The quote of the day from him was ” I may not be a ground hog, but I know the sights and sounds of spring. It is here to stay”.
Cold Beauty around Crane Lake
We are having our fair share of sporty weather in and around Crane Lake. Even in the cold times the warm beauty of the north country continues to shine through. Now there are some snow birds that probably do not agree with me, but at least I get all the ice I want for free.
